  • Obverse (Front):

    • Features a composite Native American profile based on three real individuals: likely Iron Tail (Sioux), Two Moons (Cheyenne), and possibly John Big Tree (Seneca), though Fraser never confirmed definitively.

    • Bold “LIBERTY” inscription along the rim.

    • Year “1913” placed just beneath the neck.

  • Reverse (Back):

    • A standing American bison (often called a buffalo, hence the nickname).

    • Modeled after Black Diamond, a bison from the Central Park Zoo in New York.

    • “FIVE CENTS” appears prominently on a raised mound of dirt beneath the buffalo.

    • “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” arch around the top.
